District 418-Ghana of Lions International has taken a step toward youth and literacy development by donating reading books to ten underprivileged schools across four regions.
This impactful initiative, held on Monday, December 16, 2024, in Accra, brought together staff and students from the beneficiary schools to celebrate the power of education.
The beneficiary schools include Likpe Bala R.C. Basic School, Likpe Bala E.P. Basic School, Likpe Bakwa R.C. Basic School, Gamadzra R.C. Basic School, Klikor Unity Basic 1 School, Klikor Unity Basic 2 School, Pokrom Nsaba Presby Basic School, Asiakwa R.C. Basic School, and Ebenezer Presby Basic School, Kyebi.
District Governor Lion Dr. Helena Asamoah-Hassan, PMJF, highlighted that the initiative aligns with Lions International’s global causes, particularly youth development. “In Lions service, we focus on global causes, and today’s effort falls under youth development. We need to empower young people to become better citizens and improve their lives,” she said.
Dr. Asamoah-Hassan explained that the project was in response to requests from schools lacking essential reading resources. “When I assumed office, I received letters from various schools asking for reading materials. We prioritized those most in need,” she stated. She emphasized the importance of reaching remote areas, noting, “These books are going beyond Accra and Kumasi to places like Hohoe in the Volta Region, Klikor, Pokrom in the Eastern Region, and others.”
